Two years back, Sydney was blacked out for an hour.
Last year, 400 cities across the world went dark.
These were not power cuts. But a fight. Fight against climate change. A fight to save our only planet.
It was Earth Hour.
This year, one billion people from 2000 cities across the world will turn out the lights of their homes and offices to tell the world leaders that climate change is real. That it is happening in their cities and it is happening now. And they want something done!
In India, Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and many more cities like Cochin, Thiruvanathapuram, Hyderabad, Pune, Dehradun, Shimla, Guwahati and Allahabad will observe Earth Hour. So will many corporates like- Wipro, Infosys, NDPL, Birlasoft, TCS, CB Richard Ellis, PVR Cinemas, Waves Cinemas, The Taj Group, ITC Welcom Group, Welcom Heritage, Standard Chartered Bank, HSBC, Yes Bank, Canara HSBC Life, ING Vyasa Bank, Nokia, Tata Indicom, HP, Intel, Google, DLF Luxury Homes and Tetrapak. Giants like Air India and RBI in Mumbai will shut down lights for an hour. Governments of Delhi and Mumbai are supporting this initiative. The list is long and still growing.
So far, 200,000 students have joined Earth Hour. IIT Delhi, Mumbai, Roorkee and IIM- Ahemdabad will participate too.
Join Earth Hour on Saturday, 28th March. Turn off the lights from 8.30 to 9.30 pm. Come out and march with hundreds of others in Dilli Haat in Delhi and BPT park, Colaba in Mumbai.
It will be an hour to stand up and stand together. Only for our planet.
